Well, there are two ways to hire a landscaper: online search and word of mouth. As asking around doesn’t hurt much, word of mouth is a safe bet. You can ask your neighbors and friends having a go-to landscaping company in San Diego already on their contact.
On the contrary, online gives you a lot of options. You just need to read reviews and check their portfolio to ensure if they have done a similar project you desire.

It will help your landscaping contractor provide the landscape design you want but within what you can afford.
Once you have done all these, ask a few questions to the top landscaping companies you have sorted. It will aid you in determining the best person for your job. For example:
What does your landscape service include?
How long do you need to design my landscape?
Can I have a copy of the plan?
Can you provide me with some references to whom I can talk?
After asking these questions, if you think you have found the right landscaping company, you still need to do a few things to make sure your project runs without a hitch!
For instance, you can do a background check of them to look for red flags if there are any. Also, you can compare quotes. While finding any company offering a deal vastly different, there’s something off!

Key Considerations for Choosing a Landscaping Company in San Diego
Landscaping is a significant investment that can make or break your home’s curb appeal. “Landscaping includes installing gardens, trees, plants, shrubs, and lawns, as well as landscape care and maintenance services.” So, you have to be really careful when choosing a landscaping company in San Diego.
Also, landscaping is an important consideration people make when buying a house. So, if you are thinking of selling your property in near future, make sure you choose the right company for landscaping. But, with so many landscapers in San Diego, how can you find out the most suitable one for you? Don’t worry! In this blog post, we will talk about some important facts that you have to consider when choosing a landscaper.
Location
The primary thing to take into consideration is the landscaping company’s location. Are they located in San Diego? This is vital as you’d want to communicate with them easily and get the work done on time. Choosing a landscaper close enough to reach would help ensure that they respond to you quickly and complete the job in a timely manner without excuses or delays. Also, if something goes wrong, you can make them come to you and fix it quickly.
However, if you hire a service provider that’s not based in San Diego, remember that it’ll add money and time to your budget. That is why it’s best to find a local landscaper.
Experience
One of the most vital facts to consider when hiring a landscaping company in San Diego is their experience. The landscaping industry changes every now and then. So, you’ll need somebody who knows how he/she should keep up with the changes and also stay ahead of the curve.
That’s why you should take time to research and weigh up their experience, qualifications, and skills. Does the company have any recognitions or industry awards? What kind of landscaping do they specialize in? For how long are they in this business?
While a landscaping company with little experience can be cheap, they may not get you good results. Moreover, inexperience may lead to several issues down the road that may result in additional costs due to downtime or rework.
Wrapping Up!
Certainly, choosing the correct landscaping company in San Diego is a big decision. But, it does not need to be overwhelming or stressful. If you keep these most important facts in mind, you can surely find the correct one for your requirements.
3 Questions You Should Ask Your Landscaping Company!
Landscaping is the best option if you want your front yard to hold the curb appeal. A recent survey shows that “Younger households are picking up gardening and lawn care activities under landscape maintenance that makes the landscape services industry has a market size of $105.1 billion in 2021.” In fact, when you want to sell your home, a beautiful landscape can attract potential buyers! And our landscaping company in San Diego won’t disappoint you here!
Still, we suggest asking a few vital questions before planning the project to ensure everything is on the right path!
What to Ask Your Landscaping Company Before the Project Starts
Who else likes to wade through a jungle to the front door? Neither you nor your home buyers! That’s why landscaping is the best solution to give your front yard curb appeal that impacts the entire look of your home.
But before starting, you should ask our landscapers the following questions to ensure there’s no room for error! Such as:
Question #1: Where will you bring the plants and shrubs from?
You don’t have to look for native species for landscaping. On the contrary, be sure if your landscapers bring plants and shrubs grown in your area or outside. If you have a fixed budget, shipping plants from outside your locations can cost a lot.
Question #2: Have you got my visions?
You should take the time to talk to your landscaping company before the project starts! Doing a rush about your dream yard can make you regret it later. Instead, show some samples of landscape projects you admire so our landscapers can understand your visions about landscape design. It will help them ideate what your new yard should look like.
Lastly, ask the landscapers to explain everything in detail so you can determine if you both are on the same page.
Question #3: How long will the entire project take?
Well, you can’t predict the climate and unforeseen issues. Hence, the completion dates of landscaping projects are hard to tell, even for our landscapers! But if you have any deadlines, like a party at the front yard, we suggest you tell us before the project starts. It will help them plan accordingly!
Bottom line
Landscaping is a kind of major home improvement that's exciting but can be nerve-wracking if you don't have the best landscaping company in San Diego. Contact us to plan your front yard landscape to ensure all your specifications are done perfectly! Stay connected!

Abstract Fine Art and Landscape Architecture
Landscape design entails the creation and ornamentation of gardens, yards, grounds, parks, and other outdoor spaces. Landscape design is used to improve the appearance of buildings, public spaces, recreational places, and parks. It is a decorative art form associated with architecture, urban planning, and gardening.
Even the greatest metropolises are surrounded and penetrated by the vegetative environment that blanketed most of the Earth's continents before people began to construct. Garden design, as well as efforts to protect and promote sustainable open space in and around cities, are all attempts to keep in touch with the authentic pastoral, rural landscape. By filling open spaces in cities, gardens and created landscapes establish a continuum in space between structured cityscapes as well as the open rural landscapes outside. Furthermore, gardens and landscaped landscapes offer a unique form of chronological continuity. Structures, art, and sculptures may outlast single plants, but plants continuously grow and transform to give a continuous temporal dimension that static buildings and artwork cannot.
Design is a significant element of landscape architecture's profession, although it is by no means all of it. Landscape architecture encompasses planning and design, plan outlines, master planning, urban design, and environmental planning, and is defined as "the art of organizing land and the items on it for human use and enjoyment."
The majority of the population is aware of how to keep their gardens and landscapes in good shape by watering the plants and pruning the shrubs and trees. However, not everyone understands how to properly plant their outside areas. Wouldn't it be good to be able to stare out your living room window upon something lovely and fresh-looking? An abstract landscape might be the answer if your fantasy garden has natural lines, great contrast, and vivid colors. This landscaping style is suitable for almost any home, regardless of its design.
For this particular kind of landscape architecture, curvilinear shapes are highly suggested. A softer look is obtained this way rather than harsh lines. However, using squares and triangles in an abstract garden scene is still permissible.
Abstract landscape allows nature to guide you in the placement of hedges, paths, and flowerbeds in an area to balance the other aspects.
There's no need to be concerned about every element being symmetrical. True, when one plans a garden based on symmetry, a balanced, albeit classic, the appearance will be obtained. Traditional isn't what we're striving for with an abstract garden scene. As a result, you must think outside the box and employ asymmetry.
Forget about having hedges that are identical on both sides. Why don't we put one on the left that's tall and one on the right that's short? There's nothing wrong with trying out fresh ideas for landscaping. Instead of having a single focus point in the center, asymmetry allows each corner of the land to be distinct.
An abstract landscape allows a more engaging and captivating atmosphere to everybody since it is current and fresh. There are no restrictions or guidelines. You may use your imagination and create it however you like. You're also urged to play with color combinations to make each element stand out.
A lot of time and work will go into planning and constructing an abstract landscape, when it comes to organization, it's preferable to be a little more laid-back. After all, we're trying for an abstract appearance here. Consider being in a forest where the trees and flowers are not planted in a straight line but rather in random spots. They are dispersed and separated at random distances from one another.
It's also a good idea to use flowers and plants that appear to be unkempt and unruly. This will give your landscape a more natural feel.
Abstract landscape design is all about freedom of expression!

Landscaping, to put it plainly, is the process of decorating or renovating a specific part of the house. Let's take the garden; picture your dream garden. A beautiful patio? Elegant lights? Exotic plants? Large space? It sure sounds like a dream!
Now you must feel that this view of your garden is out of reach, perhaps in terms of design or due to lack of funds. But do you know that a smart investment in your landscaping plans can increase your house's equity by a massive amount?
The answer is yes! Read on to find out more about this.
How does landscaping add value to a house?
It's pretty simple. Think of it this way. A rough diamond has value, but a polished, cut diamond has more. Why is that so? Because the cut diamond is aesthetically more pleasing to look at as compared to its counterpart.
Keeping this example in mind, your estate is a rough diamond, and landscaping is the process of polishing that diamond to increase its value.
Landscaping is not only about increasing the aesthetics of your property; it allows your property to truly shine at its best.

Garden-based Landscape designs like planting trees can add value to a house by a whopping 15% to 18%! Moreover, trees are an excellent provider of shade. Thus, proper planting can result in an overall cooler summer.
Pro Tip 2!
It is suggested to grow the plants that are native to your area or low-maintenance plants for an easy ride! Also, if your area allows certain species of plants to thrive, then it is recommended to get those favored by butterflies and birds!
They may require additional maintenance, but they provide a natural boost to the value of your land. Besides, who doesn't love the sweet song of birds and colorful butterflies fluttering in the vicinity!
3. A well-maintained lawn
Never judge a book by its cover, or so the quote goes. But let's be honest, what would you think of a house with a messy lawn with scatterings of leaves, weeds everywhere. You'd think the house would be in a similar condition.
What does this do to the value of your house? It brings it down!
Maintaining the appearance of your estate or property is a must. Landscape investment can fix up the lawn, make it more scenic in appearance.
It may be costly at first, but the benefits are worth it!
4. Match the landscaping to the architectural style of your house
It's no secret that clashing styles between the exterior and interior of the house can prove disastrous. Every landscaping design should flow well with the style of the house. You should keep this point in mind.

Have you heard about curb appeal? Curb appeal is a general term used for describing the attractiveness of a property to potential buyers. If the exterior of a house is well-embellished, the buyer can expect what to find on the house's interior.
According to a study done by Michigan State University, landscape garden designs can increase your home's curb appeal and add value to your property by 5 to 11% if you consider selling your house.
What is the difference between hardscape and softscape elements?
Let's discuss the two main components that make up a landscape:
Hardscape - Hardscape describes non-living, artificial elements such as rocks, stones, bricks, concrete, and metal.
Softscape - Softscape describes living elements such as succulents, flowers, shrubs, and trees.
The combination of both these elements makes the perfect unique landscape design.
Types of landscape design ideas:
Do you want to know more about how you can specifically beautify your backyard or front yard?
There are different types of landscape designs to do that! Some of them are as follows:
Oriental landscape
Modern garden
Xeriscape gardens
Formal landscape
Informal landscape
Now, let's take a detailed look at them!
Modern garden
If you want a minimalistic landscape design idea for your front yard, then the modern garden design is the right choice for you.
Modern garden designs focus more on architecture than plants and greenery. Modern landscapes make more use of hardscape elements to keep it minimal.
Have you heard the saying "Less is more"? Modern landscape design ideas are the pure example of simplicity and sophistication.
Japanese Garden
A Japanese garden is mainly characterized by natural landscapes and avoids artificial ornamentation. The essential elements used in making a unique Japanese garden are water, plants, and stones.
All shades of green and mosses are used in a Japanese garden to make it aesthetically natural.
Japanese gardens can best suit your backyard as a landscape design idea as so many plants will not look great in a front yard.
Xeriscape Gardens
Xeriscape landscapes eliminate the need for water for irrigation. Drought-tolerant plants or plants that need less water supply are used in xeriscape gardens.
Xeriscape landscapes are an excellent choice for dry regions of the United States.
Examples of xeriscaping plants are Thyme, Candytuft, Corsican stonecrop, Mossy saxifrage, and Moss phlox.
Formal landscape
Modern classic and formal landscapes never go out of style. Formal landscape design ideas will look great for the house's front as the curb appeal would be increased.
A sign of recognizing a formal landscape is that symmetrical lines are used in almost any formal garden. Moreover, geometrical shapes and planned-out divisions also enrich the design of a formal garden.
Formal landscape designs are often associated with status and wealth.
Informal garden
Informal landscapes are perfect for people who want a beachy look in their house. Informal gardens are generally loose and use natural material to make them look naturalistic.
Informal gardens are characterized by curves and asymmetrical features. These gardens are full of free-flowing and organic shapes to give a natural look.
They have no symmetry, and mostly, tall shrubs and trees are planted and allowed to grow naturally as the lines are soft and more fluid.
This type of landscape design will look best in the backyard!
Now you can easily decide what landscape design idea to choose that complements your home and your budget too.
Benefits of Landscape Designs:
Still not convinced about embellishing your home with a landscape design? Take a look at the benefits, and you'll want to reconsider your decision.
The benefits of landscape designs are:

7 architectural elements of Spanish revival Garden Style
Are you thinking of renovating your house? Are you bored of all the basic and cliché house designs that you see almost everywhere? Do you want your house to stand out among all the houses and be unique?
Are you thinking of renovating your house? Are you bored of all the basic and cliché house designs that you see almost everywhere? Do you want your house to stand out among all the houses and be unique?
Well, there's a solution to all, and it's called 'Spanish revival' architecture. You might want to get your house renovated in this exact way after you are done reading this blog!
However, the question that arises is:
What is Spanish revival landscape architecture?
Spanish-inspired homes built in the first decades of the 20th century are usually described as Spanish Colonial or Spanish Revival.
As you can predict by the name, the Spanish revival style mimics the Spanish Empire's architectural traditions in North America. You can also find many examples of Spanish colonial architecture in the United States.
Spanish Revival garden architecture is meant to embrace Colonial Spanish designs, a feeling captured by amplifying certain features than what they are usually like.
Moreover, Spanish Revival architecture is characterized by putting together details from multiple eras of Spanish Baroque, Spanish Colonial, Moorish Revival, and Mexican Churrigueresque architecture.
This architecture is a very eclectic style, which means that it is made by mixing and combining elements of numerous styles to produce the preferred visual impact.
What are the elements of a Spanish revival garden?
Spanish décor is pretty easy to achieve in your home. In Spanish Revival architecture, multiple new features were added to the classic designs to create a well-defined look.
Let's now explore some of the exterior and interior elements that define the Spanish revival style.
The color scheme of Garden:
The Mediterranean style greatly influences the color scheme of Spanish revival homes. In addition to this, the color palette is greatly inspired by the coastline.
Some of the prominent colors you will see in Spanish revival homes are shades of blue, white, green, and brown. You will also notice the use of earthy and rusty tones such as taupe, chocolate brown, terracotta, red, yellow, mustard, and burnt orange.
Who would not fall for these colors?
White stucco exterior and walls of the garden
Stucco is used as a decorative coating for walls and ceilings, external building siding, and sculptural and artistic material in architecture.
It is a hand-applied mixture of cement, water, and lime and adds a textured finish to the wall.
Additionally, stucco is also able to tolerate moisture and expansion up to a certain point. This roughly applied stucco is covered with white paint to give an overall aesthetic look.
Terracotta roof tiles
This is one of the most immediately recognizable traits of the Spanish revival style. Spanish Revival roofs are usually low-pitched and are often even flat.
There is excessive use of Terracotta reds and oranges in the Spanish décor color theme, and this is usually very prominently highlighted on the roof tiles most of the time.
Balconies, Facades that enrich Garden Design
Balconies are also an essential element that you will find in almost every house built on the Spanish revival design.
They are created to enjoy the fresh air and to see the beautiful view from your house. Moreover, they are usually decorated with flowers and plants to give it a refreshing look.
Moreover, there is a lot of intricate and detailed work done on the balconies to make them appealing to the eye.
It is hard not to fall in love with these balconies!
Ornamental iron detailing in Spanish Revival Garden
Another thing that you will notice when you step into a Spanish revival-style house is the use of wrought iron throughout the home, be it wooden gates, light fixtures, stair railings, window grills, or lanterns. You will find ironwork everywhere!
The iron lanterns are of significant importance in the Spanish revival style. They may be found at the entrance of the house and also inside the house.
Other than the lanterns, you may also see many potteries, candleholders, and carved wooden panels around the house.
All of this plays a significant role in Spanish interior design.
Spanish Courtyards and Patios
Spanish courtyards and patios are yet another crucial aspects of the Spanish revival décor.
Spanish-style patios are distinguished by the use of tiles, bricks, or flagstone flooring. Some may even be covered with wood. The walls are often made of stucco or brick and usually have a fireplace or planters.
Among some of the luxurious properties with Spanish-style patios and decks, most house owners also like to add an outdoor kitchen or cabinets with a Spanish theme.
The courtyards are not covered by a roof and are very spacious. You may also notice the extensive use of plantations on the courtyards and the patio.
The furniture for Garden Design in Spanish Revival
Spanish Revival furniture is characterized by dark solid woods, hand-carved details, engraved turnings, sturdy trestle bases, and noticeable wrought iron scrollwork. Some dark wood choices include Mahogany, walnut, ebony, teak, rosewood, and butternut.
The entrance hall or the other open areas usually have a dark, straight-back trestle bench that is designed using distressed warm, brown leather
In kitchens and dining rooms, dark and distressed wood tables work really well, including those with chunky bases and twisted legs. Tables can be paired with Gothic straight-back chairs with richly colored, Baroque patterned fabric for Garden Design.

Xeriscape landscaping ideas
A well-designed landscape can be a source of inspiration. It has the potential to have a sense of peace, awe, and harmony. It will lift your spirits and provide you with comfort.
Lands that support xeriscape concepts have a wide range of plants and garden types. The word xeriscape literally applies to a landscape that uses as little water as possible for plant growth.
In this regard, a landscape designer will help you make the best of this bounty by leading you to the most suitable plants, products, and garden plans for your land.
Xeric plants
These are plants that need little water to grow and therefore perform well in drought conditions. Of course, the drought tolerance of plants is relative. Plants growing in dry areas in America might be baked up to crisp in a desert.
It is worth noting that the use of native plants is better for xeriscaping. Many gardeners promote the use of native plants in their designs. Why is this so? Native plants are more suited to geographical changes in climate than non-native plants.
This also results in the growth of native plants without the use of unnecessary irrigation, fertilizers, or pesticides. Native plants are also thought to offer a more valuable habitat for animals as well.
Non-native plants can build xeriscape gardens by homeowners, but it is recommended to go for native plants. For example, Colorado's xeric plants include Fernbush, Agastache, Panchito Manzanita and Yarrow, etc., are great options.
Limitation of turf
Limitation of turf does not suggest that you are abandoning your yard. You can have a lovely lawn area that involves little or no irrigation if built with good soil, suitable grass variety, and careful maintenance.
Keep in mind that the grass is naturally resilient. It requires water to grow, and it preserves itself by going dormant in arid conditions and only revives once regular rainfall returns.
Soil amendment
The layout of xeriscape requires the right spot. You'll get the best results with the least amount of time if you adapt plants to the right growing conditions. It's also a bright idea to change the soil to give plants the best possible foundation.
The type of soil amendment you need is determined by the type of plants you want to grow and the type of soil you have. Take a soil test to get the best soil amendment budget for your landscape.
Effective irrigation
You may be wondering whether an irrigation system is needed for a xeriscape? It's a valid question!
A qualified landscaper believes that implementing an irrigation system is essential in 90 percent of landscapes, even in xeriscapes.
A good xeriscape requires extensive, continuous watering over the first two summers to train roots to expand deep into the cool soil. Inadequate irrigation will stall growth and make plants dependent on you for years.
You can opt for any irrigation, including hand watering, sprinkler system, drip irrigation on a grid, or soil grading for your land.
Uses of mulches
Consider mulch to be a kind of sun protection for plant roots. Just two to four inches of mulch will significantly preserve soil moisture, delay evaporation, and shield roots from overheating, which is particularly beneficial to ornamental plants and veggies.
Do you hate weeding? If so, then it would help if you began mulching!
Weeds that compete with landscape plants for water, nutrients, and light can be minimized or avoided using mulch.
Mulch may be constructed of either organic or inorganic materials. Organic mulches, such as pine straw, pine bark, and shredded hardwood, are the safest options because they preserve moisture and add nutrients to the soil as they decay.
Appropriate landscape maintenance
Now that you have created a good xeriscape landscape, you need to maintain it. Whether it's in your front yard or your backyard, keep it growing strong by following these simple steps:
Don't let the weed grow
Fertilize your plants
Avoid heavy pruning

8 Easy Ways to Create Stunning Japanese Gardens in Your Backyard
There must have been many times when you would have thought to yourself about doing something to brighten up your backyard. We know, we've all been there!
There must have been many times when you would have thought to yourself about doing something to brighten up your backyard. We know, we've all been there!
One of the first ideas that may have popped in your head was to spruce it up by turning it into a garden.
So, you start looking into the types of gardens you can incorporate, and then you come across Japanese gardens. Sophisticated and serene, you fall in love with them!
However, at the same time, they can be a little intimidating as well. How can you make Japanese garden designs? Where will you get Japanese garden plants? How will you get your hands on all these little pebbles?
These questions will most likely run through your head and make you want to skip on to the next idea.
Before you give in to these thoughts and give up just because you think it's a little too challenging to do, let us stop you and tell you that there are straightforward steps to create Japanese gardens.
Read on to learn about the eight easy ways you can turn your backyard into your very own Japanese style Garden!
Why Japanese Gardens?
The Japanese are known for their traditions and how they've incorporated intricate design features into their living and recreational spaces.
These spaces do not only evoke calming sensations and feelings of 'Zen' but incorporate the natural landscapes as well.
Japanese use simple organization and clean lines to create a space where one could achieve inner peace.
The great news is that Japanese garden designs can also become your spiritual haven, giving you pocket spaces to unwind and relax.
How to make your spiritual getaway?
There are many Japanese garden design ideas that you can use. These ideas are not only easy to recreate but will not put too much pressure on your budget!
Now, let us look at the 8 ways to create a Japanese garden:
1. Less is more
You don't have to fill up every corner of your garden, as that will just make it feel cluttered and claustrophobic. Too many things can be distracting, and that is NOT what you want your garden to do.
'Ma' or open spaces are integral parts of Japanese garden designs, and by leaving unoccupied parts, you are helping to enhance the individual elements present there, like a particular plant or a boulder arrangement.
2. Hard landscaping your way through
You can use natural hardscaping like gravel, pebbles, or steppingstones to pave ways in your green pocket. These paths make you feel like you're a part of the whole process and help evoke your senses.
Make sure that you use varying elements, like steppingstones of different sizes or curving paths with varying widths. With such additions, you can control how someone will use the space and where they will stop to view a particular element.
You can look anywhere for these, be it in parks or forests or perhaps a beach. Make sure you get the right size and shape!
3. Monochromatic Pallet
It can be very tempting to add a dash of bright colors like overhanging red flowers or brightly painted wooden bridges over a water feature.
However, if you want an authentic Japanese style garden, you need to stick to the basics. Usually, a green palette is chosen as the base for such an approach.
4. Flowers are your best friends
Add flowers to your garden as they will enhance the green elements. Make sure that they are not too bright, or they will stand out too much!
Remember, all the elements need to work together cohesively to enhance the space collectively.
For this Japanese garden design idea, you can use bonsai trees, maple trees, or a Japanese favorite, Wisteria, to adorn your garden.
5. Frame your views
If you are lucky enough to live in a naturally beautiful landscape and your backyard overlooks it, then frame those views.
These will become moments of pause and contemplation, and you can use wooden frames to highlight these views that can also be crafted easily with bamboo stalks.
6. Ripples of sand
Another Japanese garden idea on a budget is incorporating gravel or sand.
These are components that will remind you of natural landscapes. Sand around specific elements like boulders or particular highlighted plants will add a relaxing and calming effect.
You can create lines in the sand or white quarts gravel with a rake or a stick to create ripple-like effects, and this rhythmic effect will do wonders for your garden and your mind!
7. Gated thresholds
If you haven't seen Japanese architecture, then look it up and add the Japanese style gates. The purpose of these is to enhance the entry into these spaces and not make them feel exclusive.
The gates will also make your space look much more significant and add a certain feeling of openness to your backyard.
8. Water features
Water has a soothing effect, and this effect can be psychological, visual, and sensual. Like many other cultures and practices, water features like a small artificial waterfall or a small stream of water gushing from a bamboo stalk can add to the space's purity.
You can make small basins of water or buy artificial waterfalls to touch up your garden. These are pretty easily available in the market. So, don't worry about their availability, and get that wooden basin right now!
Conclusion
The first step can always seem very daunting, but you can easily do it with a bit of effort. So, try out these affordable and straightforward steps and make your garden the best part of your house!

Top 5 Ideas to Make Your Contemporary Garden Enchanting
Imagine coming home after a tiring day and not being able to find comfort anywhere. Think about not being able to relax on your day-offs fully.
Imagine coming home after a tiring day and not being able to find comfort anywhere. Think about not being able to relax on your day-offs fully.
Even though these would make you more tired, and rightly so, we all want to recover mentally and physically once we are in the comfort of our homes.
The real question that arises here is, what can bring us this comfort that will refresh our minds and prepare us again for the next day or next week at work. The simple answer to this would be contemporary gardens.
What is a contemporary garden? How can you build one at your place? What are some of the best tips to make your contemporary garden more enchanting? Without any further ado, let us dig deeper into the blog to find these answers!
What is a Contemporary Garden?
A contemporary garden should give a homely and relaxed feeling. It is more than just a collection of plants; it is an extension to your living space with elegance and comfort. Precisely, it brings the outside in.
For example, it can include outdoor furniture, intimate artifacts, and other decor items. Along with these things, lighting can play an essential role in the serenity of your garden.
Contemporary gardens have gradually become popular in urban areas in response to increased stress and fatigue. They do not only provide an escape from stress but also add that wow factor to your house.
Contemporary garden design determines if it really has a wow factor, but what else do you need to consider making sure it is perfect?
5 things should be of the utmost importance when we talk about a contemporary garden, and they are as follows:
1. Selecting the Right Plants:
Plants are an essential part of any garden. In fact, they are an absolute necessity. There are several factors to be considered when choosing what plants are best suited to your garden.
It would be best if you looked for plants that can grow well in your place's climate. There are two types of plants mainly, ones that required direct sunlight and others that prefer shade
Carefully look out for plants that do not grow too much in size
Some plants attract insects and others that do not, so choose wisely
If you want to cover up a rather unpleasant wall, you can always choose climbing plants
If you cannot give enough time to the plants, make sure you buy the ones that require very little care
2. What Materials to Use?
Your contemporary garden design should complement your indoors. It should provide a good transition from your interior to your exterior.
Several materials which are commonly used include concrete, ceramic tiles, wood, and stones.
Chose materials carefully to avoid disappointments. Here are a few things to consider:
The materials' attributes should be a top priority, e.g., whether they can survive harsh conditions and are easy to maintain. Another vital thing to take into consideration is comfort; the material should not be slippery
Style is as important as comfort. The combination of the chosen materials should be pleasing to the eye. For example, wood and stones would give a traditional and calm look
Choose materials wisely so that you can work out the whole design in the available budget
3. The Perfect Furniture:Contemporary garden furniture choices will decide the overall outlook of your garden. The type of furniture would depend solely on your comfort. Of course, the garden's overall structure plays a role too.
Cement and solid wood furniture will be a good choice if you live in a place with frequent rainfall. Furniture of this material can be placed outside throughout the year.
On the other hand, folding furniture would require shelter and might not survive extreme weather conditions for too long.
Overall, using natural material for your furniture would go well with neatly planned plants setting and white surfaces.
4. Lighting Is Just As Important:
With the busy daily schedules, the garden's ambiance at night should match the ambiance at daylight. Good lighting is about the lights themselves rather than the light fixtures.
Cool-toned lighting will not provide a relaxed and warm environment and, so it should be avoided. Instead, the lights should be warm as this adds to the overall environment's warmth and provides the much-needed rest to the eyes.
Focus on using spotlights; put some light on your favorite plants and create that dramatic effect.
5. Let the Water Relax You
Water as a decorative element adds to the aesthetics and the calmness of the surroundings. You have several choices when it comes to water décor elements.
You can have small ponds or decorative pools, water walls, and fountains. Of course, it depends entirely on your choice to choose any of these. However, each of them serves the same purpose.
Water stimulates senses and creates emotions. The soothing sound of water flowing can help eliminate unnecessary background noises and provide calmness.
Overall, water contributes to your garden environment immensely and helps it achieve its primary objective: to relax you!
Conclusion
Contemporary gardens need to be designed carefully and require a lot of effort to achieve their ultimate purpose of providing a serene and relaxing environment.
You must make an important decision, keeping in mind several things that have been discussed in this blog!
Lacking any critical feature of perfect enchanting garden results in a considerable loss of initial investment, simply because every combination must complement each other. Choose trained professionals for best possible outcome.

Top 8 Techniques for Stormwater Management and Their Benefits. San Diego, California.
Have you ever faced the problem of excess water gathering on your rooftop or driveway after a heavy rain or snowing session? Did you ever get tired after spending hours cleaning it out?
Have you ever faced the problem of excess water gathering on your rooftop or driveway after a heavy rain or snowing session? Did you ever get tired after spending hours cleaning it out?
From airports to highways and forests, stormwater has been a problem in rural and urban areas for ages after spells of rain, snow, and ice.
It is widespread to see stormwater which the ground has not absorbed flow into the streets and corners. Unfortunately, it does not commute alone and picks up pollutants along its way.
To solve this problem, an effective stormwater management plan needs to be executed!
Now, what is stormwater runoff? What is stormwater management and how is it done? What are its benefits?
If you are looking for the answers to these questions, you are at the right place as this blog will help you answer all of them. So, let us jump right in!
What is Stormwater Runoff?
The residue water remains stranded on grounds, streets, and industrial areas such as construction sites. It is also found in natural habitats such as forests and near lakes and rivers, ultimately flowing into the rivers.
To solve this issue, a stormwater drainage and management model is required.
How to do Stormwater Management?
Storm Water Management can be defined as the effort or process to reduce the runoff of water and channel it to other sources to improve water quality.
The primary purpose of this program is to detain the stormwater while removing the pollutants.
Benefits/Importance of StormWater Management
Let us take a look at the importance of this system:
1. Maintains the hydrological cycle
It replenishes groundwater supply for agricultural and domestic purposes and helps maintain the soil moisture responsible for sustaining vegetation.
If the groundwater recharge is lost, it can reduce the flow in streams which can have harmful effects on the aquatic species.
2. Prevents Floods
Constructive management of the stormwater also helps to keep floods in check. If you live in an urban area, the chances of flooding are higher due to less vegetation.
This is because intense thunderstorms and downpours can increase the runoff of water unless managed wisely.
3. Sustains Water Quality
It would sound strange, but the water outside your house could ultimately affect the water quality inside it!
Stormwater management can reduce the impact of contaminated water sources that supply water to households.
In addition to this, contaminated water which contains grease, metals, and pesticides will eventually be carried to the river bodies such as rivers and lakes, causing immense water pollution.
4. Prevents Soil Erosion
With proper stormwater management techniques, soil erosion can be prevented in rural vicinities by maintaining agricultural land productivity. Otherwise, stormwater runoff can wash away the rich soil cover of the land.
Top 8 Storm Water management techniques
After readings the benefits of stormwater management, let's learn about some sustainable techniques of water management:
1. Infiltration Trenches
Deep or shallow trenches can be dug and lined to collect the stormwater, which can then be released back into the soil.
However, trenches need to be correctly located and maintained to prevent clogging or groundwater contamination.
2. Green Roofs
If you are tired of taking care of the runoffs, a green roof is a great sustainable stormwater management technique!
Green roofs are a top-notch solution to prevent water accumulation and storage for people living in urban areas. They are roofs that are equipped with vegetative covers that trap the rainwater and avert it.
The thin layer of plants would definitely help as these roofs are an extension of a conventional one that includes installing a layered system of membranes, plants, and substrate.
These roofs come with many plus points as they also contribute to the hydrological cycle by releasing the captured water back into the atmosphere. You see, it's a win-win situation!
3. Dry Detention Basins
One of the most common solutions for stormwater runoffs is dry basins which are adaptable to any climate.
Although they contain water for a limited period, the basins allow the pollutants and particles in the water to settle at the bottom of the pond. From there on, the water is released into lakes and streams.
Dry basins are a prevalent measure to control flooding as well.
4. Permeable Pavers
Permeable pavers are interestingly the pavements in houses and buildings with just a slight modification. They come with voids in between that filter the water and infiltrate the precipitation into the ground and the soil.
Permeable pavements serve as an attractive landscaping feature while fulfilling the purpose of keeping driveways, patios, and walkways clean.
5. Rain Barrels and Cisterns
Other popular and practical techniques are barrels and cisterns, which are low-cost systems installed to collect the stormwater from roofs and walls for later use.
This water can be used for other purposes such as gardening or watering the lawns.
6. Underground Filtering
This is a process whereby stormwater can be managed underground by passing through a filter that has been manufactured using special cartridges.
These facilities collect the water from your site through an underground inlet pipe, simultaneously filtering it.
7. Sand and Organic Filters
Again, these filters are used to separate the stormwater from pollutants and metals.
A standard sand filter contains two to three chambers and buildings. Interestingly, it takes up significantly less space. Moreover, it can be used on highly developed sites as well.
8. Riparian Buffers
These buffers are basically particular areas near lakes or streams where development is not allowed. The reason is to protect marine areas from any hazards or destruction.
Thus, stormwater is managed by trapping the pollutants and toxins of the water in these buffer zones.
Conclusion

Let's face the fact that our Earth has many environmental problems. In this regard, pollution is one of the significant problems worldwide, and urbanization is one of the leading causes of land pollution.
Thus, the only way to save the environment is to apply the golden principles of Eco-friendly urban designs. Likewise, to achieve a healthier and pollution-free atmosphere, we should implement ozone-friendly urban architecture.
2. Urban Heat Island Effect Innovation
The Urban Heat Island Effect is the phenomenon that occurs when the trees on the land are replaced with buildings and other surfaces that absorb and retain heat.
This increases global warming, energy charges (e.g., air conditioning), heat-related illness, mortality, and air pollution levels.
Climate Change can be very severe and harsh if this factor is not considered in the future.
3. Problem-free Urban Design Projects
Nobody wants to hear the depressing news on tv regarding the people who died in a sudden building collapse. To avoid such accidents, the material used in building infrastructures should be reliable and authentic one or else it can result in serious physical damage.
The only way to move towards brighter urban design ideas is to consider sustainability with a serious attitude.
In this regard, stormwater administration, creating Bioretention basins, riverbank restoration, greywater filtration, handling runoff from the road infrastructure should also be addressed.
4. Creative Urban Designing
Creativity is one of the most critical aspects of urban design architecture. Beautifully constructed buildings attract people. People love seeing elegant construction styles.
The construction of conceptual and artistic buildings plays a vital role in the long-term development of the city. The urban design tries to establish reasonable urban environments with durable designs, structures, and overall livability.
You see, to achieve fascinating urban designs, a lot of creative work has to be carried out!
5. Better Quality Products
Quality matters over quantity. This motto plays a pivotal role in urban designs!
The use of better material in a building strengthens its long-term security.
Everybody wants to feel secure. Henceforth, a good urban design should also use better products to induce the very feeling of security in the public's hearts.
6. Economic Consideration
Promoting the art of achieving more while spending less is on a peaking trend these days. Everybody wants to save some money!
So, an ideal urban design project should exist in affordable realms.
Not compromising the quality while keeping the price affordable now is difficult, but critical thinking always pulls through!
7. Wildlife-friendly Community
People indeed love animals, don't they? Therefore, enhancing wildlife and biodiversity could be a great way to generate a better urban design.
Making good urban designs without disturbing the ecosystem is an important topic that needs to be dealt with a sheer amount of professionalism.
8. Green Infrastructure
Creating more community gardens and fruit parks would make the citizens interact with one another, promoting a sense of brotherhood and belonging.
Reducing heavy traffic, noise, vehicle speed, and using less harmful chemicals can further help achieve an eco-friendly urban design. Moreover, the construction phase should be made more environmental-friendly as well.
9. Garbage Secretion
Garbage disposal is the fundamental concept of modern society. We can't let piles of dirt accumulate on one another as doing so will ruin the city's aesthetics.
Instead, there should be a perfect garbage secretion mechanism. In this regard, setting up landfills miles away from the populated area is one of the most common garbage disposal methods.
10. The connection between people and place
The urban plan involves making associations among people and places, development, urban structure, nature, and the constructed texture.
Urban design is the link between the past and the future since it tells about the place's history. It also tells us about the uniqueness of the place.
Additionally, it creates a vision for an area and then deploys the resources and skills needed to bring the vision to life.

Do you love gardening? Is having a lovely and exuberant garden on the list of features of your dream house? Are you curious about what modern garden ideas are?
After all, most of us love spending an evening on the lawn trying to make the most out of the little quality family-time we get.
Recently, there have been incredible advancements in the landscape designing industry. Paint this picture for a start: an outdoor kitchen, glamorous outdoor lightings, a swimming pool, radiant plantations, the smell of fresh roses, and a cozy fireplace in the corner.
It's the perfect mix of nature and home activities!
This blog will explore what's trending in modern garden ideas and what points you should consider before you make your garden design. So, let us get started!
How has gardening evolved?
The first detailed garden design dates to about 1400 BC in the early Egyptian era. It belonged to an Egyptian high court official.
You would be amazed to find that the garden was fully symmetrical, and the main entrance was arranged as a vine-covered pergola walk that led directly to the house.
So, if 1400 BC can have a technical design, imagine where we are at now!
Since the 1990s, the shift has been made from ornamental to fit gardens ecologically. People have become more oriented towards creating house gardens with focused trends of succulent, tropical, and organic houseplants.
Lately, landscapes have become more divided into geometric sections with polymorphic shapes, which makes modern landscaping very refreshing.
It focuses on clean straight lines and open spaces to make the garden more exuberant, consistent, and eye-catching. All in all, modern gardens have gotten more aesthetically pleasing.
Alright, now, let's jump into what are the features of modern gardens.
Features of modern gardens
Consistency with house design
Modern landscaping designs focus on keeping every inch of the house color and design in contrast and consistent. The colors and layout compliment the house design.
You see, the picture of the 'garden' has to be from the same collection as the picture of the 'house'.
The lawn's pavement and lines should soften the edges of the house and show a smooth transition from the house to the garden.
Continuity
By continuity, it means that the garden designs have repeating colors, patterns, and shapes.
Geometry
The most important feature of modern landscaping is making sure it is geometrically maximized.
As mentioned before, bold shapes and clean lines are trending. Even in sculptural shrubbery, people nowadays want a clear cut and well-organized geometrical boxwood or cedar.
Water Features
Basic features such as ponds, swimming pools, and fire pits are extremely trendy in modern landscaping ideas these days.
These features make the garden more vibrant while adding a new layer of sensory texture.
Low maintenance plants
In the current modern days, it is tough to find time for anything. Therefore, the essential part of designing a modern garden is to ensure that the people do not have to spend much time on its maintenance.
Plants must be integrated into the overall design, and they must provide minimal botanical diversity and balance.
Plants like Aloe Vera, lemon trees, and snake plants are used in modern-day garden designing.
Use of natural materials
Natural materials like stones, wood, and native plants are some of the most common features in gardens today.
Most trending contemporary garden designs
Pool and spa gardens
Do you have a lot of outdoor space to work with? Add a swimming pool.
Water features like pool and swimming areas serve as the focal point for relaxing or exercising in your own home. Not to mention they add to the aesthetics of your house garden.
It is a luxury but something that will add to your garden look and your house as a whole.
The vibrant light stone courtyard
A tiled courtyard to go with your outdoor BBQ grill with stunning and smooth lightings will help create the most vibrant environment in your house.
For a modern luxury garden design scheme, light stone or concrete are ideal materials.
Greenwich green revival mod
Add plants to your sitting area and make it more refreshing. This idea upholds the revival of the Greenwich village, adding a Greek touch to your garden.
Well, no law says you have to decorate as though it's 1839, but you can always add an antique touch to your design.
Vertical gardening
A recent change from mainstream gardening has led to the use of vertical patterns and shapes in garden design.
Using hydroponics, vertical gardening is a method for growing plants on a vertically suspended panel.
Install an orangery
An orangery will be at the center of your garden. Yes, many people will mistake that as a birdhouse, but they will see its true potential when they will be sitting inside it and enjoying the sight of rain.
Fancy outdoor dining set
If you are a fan of Alfresco dining, then you must get a good dining set.
Do not settle for a less than perfect dining set, as that will serve as the key to your entire gardening look.

LASD Studio targeting global environmental issues. Every design is treated as a blueprint for healing the Earth, Landscape and ecosystem. It is not a surprise that the Earth-change dynamic trends lead next generations to the global warming and increase of CO2 emission. This dynamic started to increase dramatically during the industrial period of human civilization. At LASD Studio we believe that each of our projects heals the planet. By our works we dealing with: CO2 emission; soil phytoremediation; reestablishment of the ecosystem; reducing water and electricity usage; bringing wildlife and biodiversity to the site in order to heal the Earth for future generations. We believe in Gaya theory that proposes that organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings on Earth forming a synergetic self-regulating system that helps to maintain the conditions for life on the planet. Therefore, each individual project is a huge contribution for the healing and preserving the Earth for the next human generation.
The ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environments. We look at the existing condition of the ecosystem and create design based on micro and macro ecosystem environments. This holistic principle helps us to understand the existing condition of the place and provide a sustainable solution for every individual project as a part of the bigger ecosystem image. We use local building materials and plants to create a closer connection between humans and nature. As a part of the sustainability we look at the stormwater management, water and electricity efficiency of the design, as well as supporting local flora and fauna. All these are the forces needed for the better future of humans and our planet, but they also significantly reduce the price for the project installation.
Art stands for bringing an aesthetic value for each individual project based on style, combination of styles and human history of Art. We believe that Art is the first step in the evolution of design.
Evolution of Art and Landscape Design
At LASD Studio we relate every landscape design, landscape architecture and urban design project with the art. We treat spaces as an artist would treat the canvas.
Renaissance
During Renaissance times, from an art perspective, the landscape was considered as a constant static environment. The main idea was to represent the perfection of ideal landscapes. It is beautifully described in the concept ‘Landscape Two’ by John Brinckerhoff Jackson. According to Jackson, the landscape is characterized as a ‘permanent position both in the social and topographical sense, that gives us our identity’ [1]. The landscape was shown as a very static, constant, and scenic element of human life. At the same time, the landscape was seen as a gentle organism. In pictorial art, the paintings of Claude Lorrain reflect the idea of a pastoral scene with balanced unity of man and nature.
Industrialism and Early Modernism
Lately, Jan Bijhouwer in his book ‘Het Nederlandse Landschap’ described the landscape as a continuous, ongoing process over time and space [2]. Thus, the Aesthetic of the landscape changes towards a more dynamic and unstable system. Also, Jackson, inspired by American landscapes and its processes of changes, wrote ‘I am confused by the temporary spaces I see: the drive-in, fast-food establishment that is torn down after a year, the fields planted to corn and then the soya beans and then subdivided; the trailer communities that vanish when vacation is over, the tropical gardens in shopping malls that are replaced each season; motels abandoned when the highway moves.’ [3] The landscape is always artificial, always synthetic, and always subject to a sudden or unpredictable change. Lately, Jackson’s realistic vision was supplemented by the concept of ‘Total Landscape’ by Rolf Peter Sieferle ‘The totality of the total landscape is a residual product of many different actions, each of which pursues its own ends. It reflects the result of work, traffic, housing, recreation, tourism, consumerism, landscape planning nature protection…’ [4] All these contemporary theories are simply the summary of a major development of human civilization. As a result, different actions and processes lead to a change of style and aesthetic of the landscape. This switch from classical aesthetic to relational aesthetic was described in ‘System Esthetics’ by Jack Burnham ‘the system approach goes beyond a concern with staged environments and happenings; it deals in a revolutionary fashion with the larger problem of boundary concepts. From a systems perspective, there are no contrived than material limits define the system’. [5] This switch of aesthetics can be seen in the pictorial artworks of Wassily Kandinsky. It simply represents objects and processes that correlate in the relation to each other in one system of complex composition. Rem Koolhaas described this concept as ‘free style’: ‘There are three elements: roads, buildings, and nature; they coexist in flexible relationships, seemingly without reason, in speculator organizational diversity.’ [6] A good example of such a concept could be submitted design for Park de la Villette by Rem Koolhaas, an extremely complex example of processes that in some way could be related to the artwork of Wassily Kandinsky, Klee, and Mondrian.
Triumph of Modernism
When we look at modern art, in particular of Abstract Expressionism, we realize that the whole canvas is one united world with the complex coexistence of different elements. A good example would be the works of Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning. ‘Abstract art has helped us to experience the emotional power in the pure form’. [7] Besides the contemporary science of perception of spaces and emotional power, Abstract Art represents the idea of wholeness, unitedness, and completely holistic approach in designing spaces. Contemporary art trends lead us towards bringing more nature and wildlife into the design while playing a contract with contemporary architecture and the power of pure nature. [8]
Aesthetic and Styles in Landscape Architecture
At LASD Studio we define several main architectural styles. Those are Victorian, Islamic Architecture, Romanesque, Baroque, Bauhaus, Neo-classical, Renaissance, Gothic, Modernism and Contemporary Styles. In the United States of America, we mainly define Colonial, Spanish Revival, and Contemporary architectural styles.
Victorian
The Victorian Era saw a reinvestigation of many architectural styles including Gothic Revival, Tudor, and Romanesque. During the industrial revolution, many homes were built in the Victorian style.
Islamic Architecture
Islamic architecture varies greatly depending on the region such as Persia, North Africa, and Spain. Moorish and Mosque are the best examples of Islamic styles including pointer arches, symmetry, domes, and beautiful courtyards with the decoration of surfaces by tiles.
Romanesque
Romanesque or Norman Architecture style emerged across Europe in the late 10th Century. The most famous features are the rounded arches, repetition of rows of round-headed arches, stylized floral, and foliage stone. You might see this style in Portugal churches like Porto Cathedral.
Baroque
Baroque arrived later after Romanesque style. Baroque as a style appeared during the celebration of the Catholic religion, it is more emotive, spectacular and represents the power of balanced order with the visual points of static aesthetical order. You might find a good example of such work as the Palace of Versailles.
Tudor
Tudor architecture arrived as the latest phase of the medieval period in England between the 1400s and 1600s. Usually, houses were built with a thatched roof, masonry chimney, and timber-framed facades. You might see this style in Gisselfeld, Denmark, and Warwickshire, England.
Bauhaus
Originally an art school in Germany in the early 1900s. The main idea of this style is to unify mass-production of the specific design. As a definition for this style, you can look at cubic shapes, flat roofs, glass curtain walls. A good example of such a style could be IKEA, Schools of Soviet architecture, etc.
Neo-classical
Neoclassicism arrived from Baroque and Rococo styles. Inspiration for this style was the classic Ancient Greek and Roman architecture where symmetry and perfection of balance were the core of the design. As the main element of such design, you might found free-standing columns, clean lines, excessive open grass areas, as well as lion sculptures that guarding the greatness of the architecture.
Renaissance
Renaissance appeared in Italy during the 15th Century. The main intention of the design was to reflect the elegance and ideals of private domestic life. Here you might find the open large forest with private hunting facilities, as well as, enclosed courtyards, classical motifs of the power of symmetry and order. All these demonstrate human power over nature.
Gothic
Gothic architecture delivered Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and great European architecture from the 12th Century. It combines flourishes of the previous styles and uses them all together. However, this style brings more elegance to all of the elements including thinner walls, adorned windows with beautiful mosaic patterns, more elegant columns, and the symmetry of order as a blueprint for the design.
Modernism and Contemporary
Modernism is a movement from the 20th century including styles like futurism, Post-Modernism, New Classical Architecture, and Contemporary movement of the architecture. It begins to use new unknown materials, shapes, spaces; the design is based on sunlight, freedom, and shaping a human comfort. It combines all the greatness of previous styles in a new metamorphosis of previously unknown architecture. Here is the dominance of disorder vs. order and the relation of elements on a free-standing aesthetical coexistence versus spatial perfection of balanced architecture.
